Devon-Aire was built starting in 1977 by F&R Builders, a subsidiary of Lennar Corporation. Construction ran in three phases; of an originally planned 310 units, 302 were built. The community is split between Devon-Aire Estates (single-family homes) and Devon-Aire Villas (townhouses), with townhomes the dominant product. Devon-Aire is part of The Crossings CDP and feeds to Devon Aire K-8 Center plus Miami Killian Senior.

Devon-Aire Park anchors the neighborhood, with ballfields, courts for basketball, tennis and pickleball, a playground, and paved walking paths around community green space — directly adjacent to the K-8.
